Description
📐 Ultra Slim Coils
The defining characteristic of the Ultra Slim models is their extremely shallow height, allowing them to be laid flat in confined spaces without sacrificing performance.
1. Core Design and Construction
| Specification | Detail |
| Design Type | Coaxial “Tube-in-Tube” (Concentric tubes). |
| Geometry | Ultra Slim Configuration (Coils are pressed into a very low-profile, wide shape). |
| Key Technology | High Efficiency Green Surface: The patented convoluted multi-lead inner tube features an enhanced surface texture for maximizing the heat transfer coefficient U. |
| Fluid Flow | Water/Brine flows through the Inner Tube; Refrigerant flows in the Annular Space. |
| Flow Arrangement | Counterflow is utilized for optimum thermal performance. |
| Anti-Fouling | The turbulent flow from the convoluted tube actively resists the buildup of scale and deposits, critical for maintaining efficiency in a long, shallow path. |
2. Materials and Pressure Ratings
The materials and pressure ratings are consistent with Packless’s high-performance commercial lines:
| Parameter | Material/Value | Notes |
| Inner Tube Material Options | Copper COAX Series or 90/10 Cupronickel COCX Series | Cupronickel (COCX) is required for ground source and marine applications due to corrosion resistance. |
| Outer Shell Material | Carbon Steel | Standard for structural integrity. |
| Max. Refrigerant Working Pressure | 650 psig (4482 kPa) | High rating suitable for R-410A systems. |
| Max. Water Working Pressure | 500 psig (3447 kPa) | Rated for high-pressure hydronic circuits. |
| Certification | C-UL-US Listed | Certified by UL and CSA. |
The Packless Ultra Slim Condenser & WSHP (Water Source Heat Pump) Coils are specialized versions of their coaxial (tube-in-tube) heat exchangers, optimized for applications where space is extremely limited, such as in residential or tight commercial HVAC systems.
🔬 Core Technical Features
The Ultra Slim coils retain the high-efficiency core design common to all Packless coaxial heat exchangers:
- Convoluted Inner Tube: Features Packless’s patented, corrugated inner tube.4 This convolution creates high turbulence in both the water and refrigerant circuits, dramatically increasing the surface area and the heat transfer coefficient (U-value).
- Enhanced Heat Transfer: The turbulence ensures that the coil operates with maximum thermal efficiency in a minimal footprint.
- Counterflow Arrangement: Designed for fluid flows in opposite directions, maximizing the mean temperature difference (MTD) and thermal performance.
- Anti-Fouling: The turbulent flow created by the convoluted tube inhibits scaling and fouling on the water side, keeping performance consistent over time.
